A clinic operated by a handful of volunteer doctors, nurses and community members began providing free healthcare to newcomers to Canada who found it difficult, often impossible to obtain the medical treatment they needed.

Chiropody Program

The chiropody program at the CCRIHC provides chiropody services to patients of all ages, with emphasis on prevention of lower limb amputation among persons with diabetes mellitus and/or vascular diseases. The services are free of cost but referral from your primary care provider (family physician or nurse practitioner) is required.

General Medicine & Primary Care Clinics

Volunteer health professionals at the Community Volunteer Clinic provide free primary medical care to medically uninsured and IFH protected refugees and refugee claimants and others new to Canada. Open Tuesday and Thursday evenings, nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners and others provide medical care. No proof of health insurance is required. Appointments are preferred. Now, thanks to your and other support, the clinics are every day by appointment. Please call before arriving.

The Gavin Pape Diabetes and Vascular Health Clinic

The Diabetes Strong Clinic is newcomer focused. Our team works diligently with each and everyone to ensure they are empowered to self-manage their blood sugars and receive appropriate referrals to best manage their health and thereby significantly reduce their risk of complications.

Dietitian Program

Our dietitian services are aimed to understand you as a person, your cultural foods, your financial situation, your likes/dislikes, your living situation, your nutrient requirements, and dietary restrictions. Whatever your situation is we are here to help you feel better, feel stronger, and better able to manage your health. There is no fee or charge to see our dietitian. There may be a small fee for any forms completed. Ask our team about a referral.

Mental Health Counselling

The Mental Health Team at CCRIHC provides free private and confidential counselling for issues related to the unique experiences of refugees and newcomers in their lives prior to arrival, during their journey to Canada and upon settling into the Greater Toronto Area.

Please ask your family doctor or other healthcare provider for a referral if you wish to speak with a member of our Mental Health Team. If you do not have a family doctor/healthcare provider, call to schedule an appointment to see a healthcare provider at our clinic, free of charge. We accept referrals for newcomers with and without immigration status regardless of federal or provincial healthcare coverage.

Pediatrics Outreach Program

The Paediatric Outreach Program (POP) clinic provides paediatric consultation and medical care to infants, children, and adolescent New Canadians who are uninsured/underinsured. Care is volunteered by Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children paediatricians and residents in training from The University of Toronto.

Scarborough Women Need & Assessment

In 2006 four women family medicine residents founded the SWAN Clinic at the Canadian Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Health Care. Today, women and their daughters account for 70% of those coming to our clinic needing care. And it’s why an all women team of nurse practitioners, doctors, nurses, mental health counsellors and other allied providers give comprehensive women’s care without questions, fee or judgement.

Urban Dental Clinic

The clinic has recently moved to a new enlarged facility in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough. Under the same roof as our founders and long-standing supporters, The Canadian Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Health Care. Our common goal is to provide free treatment to the dentally and medically uninsured. In May 2017, the UDC and a growing team of volunteer dentists and hygienists, expanded to 3 dental operatories with the generous support of Henry Schein Canada and public donors.

We treat low income adults age 18-64 who have no employer or government dental benefits. Financial screening is carried out by phone. All our dental patients are screened according to fixed financial criteria, and those who qualify can receive basic dental care at our clinic for a small fee, including emergency treatment, extractions and fillings.
